ABOUT BIOMASS
WHO WE ARE
The Biomass Working Group is a collaborative consortium sponsored by the Iowa Business
Council to incorporate academic and industrial innovation utilizing biorenewable
materials in industrial products and their applications.
HOW WE GOT STARTED
The Biomass Working Group was formed within AMRCC to assess Iowa industry needs
for biomass materials and products,
understand the potential economic benefit, prove out product concepts, and
facilitate collaborative efforts to commercialize
products utilizing bio-based materials. Biomass is any organic material that is
available on a renewable or recurring basis and can
be transformed into such things as lubricants, fuels, plastics, composites that
include natural fibers, adhesives, and fiber for the
textile industry.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this homepage is to provide an informal environment for
researching and discussing what biomass and biomaterial
and process technologies are important to Iowa manufactures and how to become
more acquainted with them. The working group
is also eager to assist manufacturers with technical issues and identify
opportunities to foster advanced biomaterial and bioproduct
technologies in Iowa.
GOAL
To make Iowa a leader in bioproduct materials, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.
To encourage Iowa manufacturers to incorporate Iowa-grown bio-based composite materials into their manufacturing processes.
The Biomass working group consists of representatives from the following companies/universities:
